Bob Basset Creates Mask Inspired by Current Events in Ukraine
For the first time ever, Bob Basset has designed an item inspired by a current sociopolitical situation. After protesters clashed with police at the Independence Square (Maidan Nezalezhnosti) in Kyiv and many reporters received beatings, the design studio’s cofounder Serhii Petrov responded by crafting the leather “Mask of Maidan.”
“It is only through these reporters’ efforts that I was able to see the whole picture and make my own conclusions about the events in our country. Now I feel like I owe these people,” says the artist.
The mask symbolizes a police club that has melted on impact, spreading over a journalist’s face and rendering them blind and speechless. Bob Basset auctioned the mask at eBay, with a starting price of $1.00. All the proceeds will be given to HromadskeTV, an independent, viewer-funded Ukrainian online channel.
